PROUD LAKE RECREATION AREA HOSTS SPRING BLOOMS FESTIVAL LANSING--Proud Lake Recreation Area in Commerce Township host its first Annual Spring Blooms Festival for campers April 19-21, 2002. Campers will be invited to join in an egg hunt, a hay ride and various spring activities. In addition, each camper will receive a native Michigan tree seedling to take home and plant. This is the perfect opportunity for campers to kick off the 2002 camping season. Proud Lake Recreation Area offers 130 modern campsites. As a "modern" campground, it includes shower and restroom facilities and electricity provided - all for only $18 a night. Campers can bring their boats to the boat launch, ride their horses on the bridle trails or go fishing. Canoes are available for rental, and a picnic shelter offers the perfect place to gather. This park, set on a chain of Huron River lakes, is popular among anglers because the lakes are stocked with trout each spring by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. A $4 daily or $20 annual Motor Vehicle Permit is required for entry into any Michigan State Park or Recreation Area. To get to the park, take I-96 to exit 159 and go north on Wixom Road for 7 miles.
