2001 Marten Trapping Season Begins December 1 LANSING--Furtakers are reminded that they must obtain a 2001 Marten Trapping Permit prior to Dec. 1, 2001, if they are interested in marten trapping this season. The permit is free and may be obtained only at Department of Natural Resources (DNR) offices that sell licenses. A complete listing of these offices is available on the back page of the "2001 Michigan Hunting and Trapping Guide" or on the DNR Web site at: www.michigandnr.com. The marten trapping season is open Dec. 1-11, concurrent with the fisher trapping season. The season bag limit is one marten per person. Successful trappers are required to register their marten at any DNR office within five days of harvest. Both the pelt and carcass are required for sealing and registration. Registration allows the Department to obtain biological information that helps wildlife biologists further assess the status of the marten population. It is recommended that furtakers call ahead to DNR offices for hours of operation. Telephone numbers are listed in the "2001 Michigan Hunting and Trapping Guide."
