DNR HARBOR SLIP RESERVATIONS NOW AVAILABLE BY PHONE LANSING--Boaters now may make harbor slip reservations at nine state-run harbors on Lake Huron and in the Straits of Mackinac by calling the Department of Natural Resources' state park reservation number, 800-44-PARKS. In the past, boaters seeking dock space on their day of arrival often were turned away because all slips were full. Now, they will be able to reserve a slip in advance at Cheboygan City, Cheboygan County, East Tawas, Lexington, Mackinac Island, Mackinaw City, Port Austin, Presque Isle or St. Ignace harbors. "With nearly one million registered boaters in Michigan, this group of harbors and the communities that support them will greatly benefit from the new reservation system," said Rodney Stokes, DNR Parks and Recreation Bureau Chief. "For the first time in Michigan history, boaters will be able to make reservations in advance of their stay, thereby giving them the ability to better plan a trip on Michigan's waterways." Stokes said between 50 and 75 percent of the slips are available for reservation through the new system, with the remaining slips at each harbor available on a first-come first-serve basis. The DNR, in coordination with the e-Michigan Office, soon will be making harbor reservations available over the Internet.
