NEW ORV VOUCHER ENTRY SYSTEM BEGINS: MI

LANSING--The Michigan Department of Natural Resources will
use a voucher entry system for off-road vehicles waiting to
enter Silver Lake State Park on weekends and holidays,
beginning Saturday, May 13.
The new system includes two types of vouchers: Dune Ready
vouchers for vehicles that enter the area from public
roadways and go straight to the sand dunes without parking,
and Parking Lot vouchers.
The free vouchers, which hold a visitor's place in line,
will be distributed at a small DNR booth on Fox Road about
one-quarter mile east of the ORV area entrance.
"We believe the new system will help us eliminate the long
lines of vehicles waiting to enter the park," said Pete
LundBorg, Management Unit Administrator. "Instead of waiting
in line all night or for long periods during the day, park
users will get a voucher that will allow them to do other
things until their appointed entry time."
Dune Ready vouchers will be issued for entry during
designated two-hour blocks of time throughout the day,
beginning at 9 a.m. "By staggering the arrival times,
traffic congestion outside the park will be reduced, and we
will be able to enter more vehicles at a faster rate than in
previous years," LundBorg said.
The five Dune Ready voucher periods are 9 to 11 a.m., 11
a.m. to 1 p.m., 1 to 3 p.m., 3 to 5 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m.
Individuals may request a specific time period when they
pick up their voucher. Persons arriving after 7 p.m. until
one-half hour before the park closes will not need a
voucher. Persons holding a Dune Ready voucher who arrive
after their designated time cannot be guaranteed entrance.
Parking Lot vouchers will guarantee entry between 7 and 9
a.m. only. No parking lot spaces will be guaranteed after 9
a.m. Parking Lot vouchers are valid for only one day, and
vouchers for Sunday will not be issued until all vouchers
for Saturday have been distributed.
Dune Ready vouchers for Saturday, May 13, will be available
starting at noon on Friday, May 12, and Parking Lot vouchers
will be available at 6 p.m. The same schedule will be used
for each weekend thereafter. Park permits and ORV permits
may be purchased at the same location to speed up entry into
the ORV area.
