Gillette Visitor Center sponsors wildflower photo contest

The Gillette Sand Dune Visitor Center in P.J. Hoffmaster State Park is hosting a wildflower photo contest in conjunction with its “Spring Blooms in the Dunes” on May 3-4.

Formerly known as the Trillium Festival, the park’s annual spring event includes a display of wildflower photographs by Michigan amateur photographers. Entries for the photo contest, sponsored by the West Shore Camera Club, will be accepted until April 22.

Each photograph submitted must be of a native Michigan wildflower and have the name, address and phone number of the photographer on the back. Only prints 8x10 or larger and matted without frame or glass will be accepted. There is a $4 entry fee required per photograph, with a limit of two entries per person.

Other contest rules:

* Each photograph must have the name of the flower identified on the back. Unidentified photographs will not be accepted. Photographs of garden flowers, mushrooms or ferns will not be accepted.

* Previous winning photographs will not be accepted.

* Amateurs only.

* Entries will be returned after May 26 if a postage-paid envelope large enough to accommodate the photograph is provided.

Winners will be announced and prizes awarded on May 3 during “Spring Blooms in the Dunes.” Entries will be displayed at the visitor center until May 26. Entries may be hand delivered or mailed to the Gillette Sand Dune Visitor Center, P.J. Hoffmaster State Park, 6585 Lake Harbor Rd., Muskegon, MI 49441. Entry checks should be made payable to the West Shore Camera Club.
