Clear Lake State Park hosts sled dog races
Clear Lake State Park, the Atlanta Chamber of Commerce and the Michigan United Sled Haulers (MUSH) today announced a two-day dog racing event starting on Jan. 4 at 11 am, and continuing on Jan. 5 at 10 am. This event is open to the public.
There will be three-dog, five-dog and seven-dog races, as well as weight pulling, kids races and ski-jouring. In previous years 50-100 teams have entered, depending on the weather. The race trail is accessible along most of the route, with both start and finish lines at the Day-Use area. If there is no snow, there will be no race. Participants and spectators should call 989-785-4388 on Friday to check conditions.
Trail help is always needed and provides the best seat in the house. Interested individuals should contact a park employee for more details.
Soup, sandwiches, coffee, pop and other snacks are available at the concession stand. Clear Lake State Park Day-Use Area is located 9 miles north of Atlanta on M-33. Turn left on county road 622 and drive one mile to the park entrance. A $20 annual or $4 daily Motor Vehicle Permit is required for entrance to the park.
