DNR Announces Urban Adventure Ranger Program

Michigan Department of Natural Resources officials today announced a
coordinated effort with the Kalamazoo Nature Center, the Grand Rapids
City Parks Department, and the Lansing City Parks Department to offer a
new, handson naturalist program this summer.
Started in 1989, the state park Adventure Program, brings
natureinspired, conservationoriented educational programming to 38 state
parks. The Urban Adventure Program brings the best features of the state
parks Adventure Program into localcity parks, schools and community
centers. The new program builds on the foundation of the state park
program and expands it to include Grand Rapids and Lansing city
facilities as locations for additional "Adventure" learning
opportunities.
State and city officials hope the new urban program will inspire
non-traditional state park users to try this exciting, nature-oriented
programming as a means of introducing urban residents to the natural
resources and recreational opportunities available in the state parks.
Not all city parks will be included, contact the Grand Rapids or
Lansing Parks and Recreation Department at 616-456-3696 or 517-4834233
respectively for location and time information.
