NINE HARBORS HAVE SLIPS AVAILABLE FOR RESERVATION ON THE DNR WEB SITELANSING-- The Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR), in coordination with the e-Michigan Office, today announced an Internet site which allows boaters to reserve harbor slips. Boaters who visit the DNR web site, www.michigandnr.com, and click on the "Online Campground and Harbor Reservations" link, can plan their trip by reserving slips along a route of harbors throughout the Great Lakes. The group of State-owned and Grant-in-Aid harbor facilities available through this pilot program includes: Mackinac Island, Mackinaw City, St.Ignace, Cheboygan City, Cheboygan County, East Tawas, Lexington, Port Austin, and Presque Isle harbors. The number of harbors participating with the new reservation system is expected to grow in 2002. In addition to Internet harbor reservations, a toll free telephone number is also available for both campground and harbor reservations by calling 800-44-PARKS. The call-in harbor reservation service opened for business on Easter Sunday, April 15th, and already has been used to book more than 200 reservations. The new Internet harbor slip reservation service is a great addition to the e-commerce community of services being offered by the State of Michigan. The new site can be found by visiting the State's homepage at www.state.mi.us or the DNR's homepage at www.michigandnr.com.
