6,000 BLUEGILLS EN ROUTE TO U.P. STATE FAIR ESCANABA--The Fishing Pond will be brimming with bluegills when it is stocked with 6,000 panfish Wednesday, August 9, at the Michigan Department of Natural Resources Pocket Park at the U.P. State Fair, on the U.P. State Fairgrounds, Escanaba. A truck will transport the fish from Laggis' Fish Farm in Lower Michigan to Escanaba. The fish will be held in the truck for a period of time after arrival and prior to release into the pond. It is anticipated that the fish will be placed in the pond around 5:30 p.m. Media are encouraged to attend. This is an excellent photo opportunity! It also is an ideal way to capture a preview of all the exciting things happening as the U.P. prepares for the State Fair, which is the biggest event of the year in the Upper Peninsula. DNR and U.P. State Fair personnel will be on hand for interviews. The U.P. State Fairgrounds are located off 12th Avenue North in Escanaba. The Pocket Park is just inside the main entry gate, off 12th Avenue North.
